The interactive exhibition ’That’s the story!’ – A journey with Andersen and the play ’The Snow Queen’

The interactive exhibition ’That’s the story!’ – A journey with Andersen and the play ’The Snow Queen’. 21 December 2019 – 26 January 2020 at the Anna Akhmatova museum

”25 years ago I came to Copenhagen with a small bundle. Poor and unknown to everyone. Today I drink chocolate with the queen, sitting opposite to her and the King”. (H.C. Andersen. From a letter to Edvard Collin).

The interactive exhibition ’That’s the story!’ at the Anna Akhmatova Museum, created with support by the Danish Cultural Institute and the H.C. Andersen Museum in Odense is dedicated to the both famous and yet unknown writer and traveler H.C. Andersen. Everyone in Russia know the fairy tales of the great Danish writer, but few know his general prose, poetry and drama.

The exhibition is a family trip into the magical world of Andersen – a world where things can speak, where a shadow seeks to take the place of its owner, where a secret is guarded by fearsome dogs and where false is not easy distinguishable from right. Visitors may to able to ‘fortune-tell’ in the style of Andersen and find out the cost of their deepest wishes, they may use the ‘Tenemeter’ to hear the secret conversations between things and compose their own story, merry or sad – with Andersen this is not an uncommon thing!

Younger visitors will find themselves in the atmosphere of Christmas miracles, live through the adventures of their favorite heroes, test their courage, ingenuity and attention. Older visitors will see known things from a long-forgotten perspective, remember stories, that can help in difficult times, and maybe, for the first time, be able to appreciate the rather peculiar “black humor” of Andersen.

The exhibition will end with the play ‘The Snow Queen’. Together with Gerda, the brave audience will go to the North to overcome all the trials and tribulations, find Kaj and bring spring closer. The production will be concise and subtle in Scandinavian style and based on the interaction between puppet theater, video projections and animation.
